Halfway through this United Nation decade of Ecosystem Restoration, significant effort has been placed into establishing a better relationship between Humanity and Earth ecosystems. Multiple organisations and thousands of people have worked to prevent, halt and reverse the degradation of ecosystems, and yet so much more still remains to be done.

The Native Oyster Restoration Alliance Foundation (NORA, https://noraeurope.eu/) supports this global effort focusing on the protection and ecological restoration of the native European oyster and its habitat in areas of its current or historical distribution. Since 2017, NORA has worked to overcome existing barriers to the conservation, restoration and recovery of the European oyster by providing a platform for the NORA community to collaborate and participate in knowledge exchange. NORA seeks to support responsible restoration practice, in compliance with biosecurity and sustainability.

To date, NORA has supported the creation and dissemination of European standards for reef ecosystem restoration and established 8 working groups that have facilitated collaboration within the scientific community, policy makers, practitioners and producers. NORA is home to 44 different restoration projects spread across 14 European countries, involves 73 experts within its database and regularly engages a community of almost 500 people with its newsletter.

A key activity of the Foundation is the biannual organisation of its Conference, which this year celebrates its 6th edition in Cartagena, Spain (24th–27th of November). NORA6 “Working Together for Oyster Restoration” (https://nora6.es/) will celebrate the achievements of this truly international community and represent a groundbreaking gathering dedicated to advancing native oyster restoration efforts internationally.

NORA6 venue is the Isaac Peral Hall of the Faculty of Business at the Polytechnic University of Cartagena (UPCT), the most emblematic building of the UPCT right in the center of the city.
